How to change the MAC address on a Call Manager 5/6 Server
Posted by Josh under Cisco , Cisco VOIP - [20] CommentsAfter releasing the video tutorial for installing Call Manager 5/6 in VMWare, I received a comment asking how to change the MAC address on the Virtual server. The same person, (DrM) later posted another comment confirming that he had actually changed the address in the Linux OS. I had tried changing the MAC in VMWare with version 5.x but eventually gave up. This tutorial will show you how to change the MAC address in order to duplicate a production environment within VMWare. Without changing the MAC address, it is not possible to completely replicate your CUCM environment in a test lab because the license files are attached to the MAC address.

How to get Root access on Call Manager 5/6 Server
Posted by Josh under Cisco , Cisco VOIP - [7] CommentsWhen Cisco first announced the Unified Communication Server (CallManager) would be based on Linux, my first question was “How much of the system would be available to users?”
I think it is great that Cisco does not require Engineers to understand the underlying system CallManager is built on, but some of us are curious. This tutorial will show you how to create a user on a CUCM 5/6 server with shell access and root privileges.

One of my customer’s recently started having problems receiving inbound calls although outbound calls worked just fine. Long story short, one of the dsp’s needed to be reset. When I issued the ’show voice dsp detailed’ command, the dspware version displayed all zero’s. After reseting the dsp, calls started working again.

One of the biggest problems I face after installing a new Call Manager or Call Manager Express System is end user training.
I always provide end user training while on site and I do a good job too. Unfortunately, phones are boring and users have work to do. The majority of questions come the day I am leaving or 3 days later. Instead of trying to create my own video tutorials for end user training, I have compiled a list of Cisco’s Video Tutorials. Enjoy!

How to install Call Manager 6.x in VMWare
Posted by Josh under Cisco , Cisco VOIP , virtualization - [84] CommentsIn a previous tutorial, you learned how to install Call Manager 4.x in vmware. Installing CUCM 6.x in VMWare is much easier. Cisco did a great job with CUCM 6.x in terms of allowing you to install the software in a virtual machine without needing to hack the system.

Cisco - How to configure an IOS DHCP server
Posted by Josh under Cisco , Cisco Routers , Cisco VOIP - [9] CommentsThis tutorial will guide you through configuring a dhcp server on your router. There are many reasons to have a dhcp server on a cisco router. Here are a couple examples … your small office may not have a server to hand out ip addresses via dhcp or the branch may have IP Telephony and it is best to hand our addresses locally than on a centralized server across the wan.

Cisco - Install Call Manager 4.x with VMWare
Posted by Josh under Cisco , Cisco VOIP , virtualization - [106] CommentsInstalling Call Manager version 4.x has been quite a task. All the tutorials I had been following until recently made reference to OS upgrade version 2000.2.6. However, this version no longer available for download on Cisco.com. I tried to follow the tutorials for version 2000.4.4a but ran into several issues … the registry hack did not work and version 2000.4.4a did not include MS Java … just to name a few. The following tutorials will walk you through every step to successfully install Callmanager with VMWare Player.
