Hello Amit,

I don't think there was good reason to not use a single router. Actually, I think it would be good practice for you to do the same thing with a single router.

I was probably testing something else when I made this tutorial.

Josh,

Thanks for the terrific tutorials and insight shared by u on practicing NAT using Dynamips.

just wondering... why didn't we do it with a single router. That would help provide better observations of NAT translations both ways on a single router.

Hi...sorry to bother, me again!
I tried using the network device output from XPx64 ( which I run under VMWare) inside the same myfile.net config. Got this output:-

gen_eth_init: unable to open device '\Device\NPF_{8AB8ACC3-C0CD-494A-AC8E-1780F8678FB0}' with PCAP (socket: Operation not permitted)

*** Error: Connecting A f0/0 to NIO_gen_eth:\Device\NPF_{8AB8ACC3-C0CD-494A-AC8E-1780F8678FB0} resulted in
206-unable to create generic ethernet NIO
Shutdown in progress...
Shutdown completed.

It was worth a shot - am not a linux expert, so can't think what else to do.

Running the myfile.net with
[[ROUTER A]]
f0/0 = LAN 3

everything works, but I need to connect this AMD pc to my latop, to try to lab something.

Any help greatly appreciated, since I'm all out of ideas. I DON'T want to rebuild my Ubuntu box!
LOL

Thanks for some very useful info.
Having difficulty with bridging the router fa0/0 to PC (AMD64 running Ubuntu8.04) using all your steps, as per your video. tap0 is there, I can see it!
Ran dynagen myfile.net
Output:
netio_tap_create: unable to open TAP device tap0 (Permission denied)

*** Error: Connecting A f0/0 to NIO_tap:tap0 resulted in
    206-unable to create TAP NIO
Shutdown in progress...
Shutdown completed.

Running as sudo doesn't help either.
I KNOW I'm close to getting this thing running!
Could you help please?

for all those who can ping google.com or any public address from R2 and can't do from R1, the really the problem is due to that R1 uses private addresses and send it to the internet although R2 is directly connected to the real router network, and the real router (which may be D-link) supports NAT translation only for the 192.168.1.0 or whatever network in your home, hence as a result R2 don't find any prbolem to connect to DNS server or to any internet public address, to solve this problem -thank you Josh first for these labs, my regards- you can watch "How to Configure NAT on your dynamips router" vedio form Linux category, usually windows users don't watch this vedio to not confilict with linux paramters, although this vedio is valid for both windows & linux and I hope that Josh put it separate from the linux category, bcz this conflicts me myself as a windows user, thank you josh again
