GNS3 – How to find Pix Images, Pix Serial Numbers and IOS images using Google
Posted by Josh on Wed 14 May 2008Categories: Cisco , Cisco Routers , Dynamips , GNS3 , PEMU - [23] Comments
One of the major hurdles many people face with GNS3/Dynagen/Dynamips is that the emulators do not come with the Cisco Images to actually build a lab. It seems like once a week, I get an email with a request for an IOS Image, Pix Image, Pix Serial Numbers or Pix Activation codes. Just so I make myself clear, I will not give this information to you. Period. However…
However, I will show you how to scan the net to get it yourself.
Google Searches:
Google Search for IOS Images
Google Search for Pix Images
Google Search for Pix Serial Numbers and Authorization Keys

I’ve gotten a few requests like that myself, Josh. It’s definitely not worth being in trouble with Cisco because someone else wants you to pirate software for them.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for all the information that you are posting here. I am a newbie to GNS3 and had never used dynamips before. I downloaded IOS images and have tried it but when I tried the console, nothing appears on it. can you help me to know which IOS image I need to use to make those routers work?
Thanks a lot.

Really – good work!
Your seem to love this GNS3 like us all.
Maybe this GNS3 / dynamips / PEMU and your tutorial site are some of the best resources for Cisco Learners in this part of the galaxy!
Another good resource to me has allways been http://www.sadikhov.com website. BRILLIANT Resources for all kind of certifications, trainings and finding interesting networkers around this planet.
I still have trouble to get activation key running in my pemu / pix. I invested the whole day in this cause i want to do some training on ipsec vpn but the feature is licensed and i can not activate.
but i simply was not able to get the activation key running.
We run several pixes on the company, i have serial and activation key but anything i tried out was not successfull. ;-(
Maybe someone has some “hint” step by step what could be the problem? I tried to give in my serial and act. key on GNS3, i tried on gns3.ini, i tried on pemu.ini, i deinstalled gns3 maybe 5 times and i am tired now from trying. I tried with several pix os versions (from 6 –
The whole functionality of GNS3 is really breathtaking, i simply love this environement and i thank to all the people who made this possible.
Thank you!

pixfirewall(config)# activation-key 0xf2a93be8 0x502de7cb 0×16213165 0x8644bc8b
ERROR: The requested activation key was not saved because it is not
Sorry guys for going on your nerves – i HAVE a valid serial and i HAVE a valid activation code and i HAVE the PIX OS from a “real” pix where this act. code works.
Pleeze can you provide me with information how to get pix activation code running on my pemu environement?
Thanx!

@spacyfreak,
Add the serial number and activation key to Pemu section of the preferences. Right below the pix image.

Mohammed,
I am not sure. I have not kept up with that in a while. GNS3 only supports the Pix, but I think Pemu (the Pix emulator behind gns3) may support the ASA now…not sure.

how i can add multilayer switch in my topology and how can i add new routers in gns3 default library
March 5th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Asad,
It is not possible to add new hardware to the gns3 software. Dynamips only supports the hardware set in GNS3. However, I believe you can add a multilayer switch and other routers logos to the topology, you will just not be able to emulate them.

Josh,
I’am releatively new to GNS however i’ve been creating LAB successfully for routing. However when i am trying to add PIX its failing.
I’ve added PIX IOS to Qemu and leave the Key and serial default. Now when i am trying to drag PIX on working console its giving me an error message
”Cant start QEMU on port 10525”
I tried reading your comments for PIX emulation but couldnt really find any solution can you please suggest something.
Also i want to add Juniper routers to my routing Labs any suggestion from where can i find JUNOS???
Would wait for your reply.
Best Regards
