All;

Sorry I have not responded to comments in a long time.

Glen,
Yes, GNS3 can be opened without the gksudo command in the launcher. I use it because root access is required to connect GNS3 to a physical interface on the Linux box.

Robin,
I assume you have this working by now. However, for others reading the comments...the problem could be with your path statement in the launcher.

Sam,
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Chris,
Yes, GNS3 has its flaws.

This is why I avoid GNS3... it's poorly made and has a lot of flaws. I learned the hard way that "wr mem" doesn't save my router configs... 6 hours of work down the tubes. That was the last time I used GNS3.

If you followed the instructions closely and are still having problems; try clearing the configuration ini file (edit-preferences-general ). As soon as I did this , everything started working properly.

Hi - 1st thanks for a great site with lots of tips.
I have tried following your instructions but after creating a launcher for GNS the program doesn't launch at all.
If i insert gksudo in the launcher it asks for the sudo pass which i input but then no GNS.
I have worked around it by just installing GNS via software sources and then opening the net file using open with option but i'd like to know what i am doing wrong as far as getting the other install working?

Hey everyone!
I have recently installed the Ubuntu v9.04 on my machine. I have a folder with the GNS3 installation for the operating system and at the moment I'm kinda struggling to install this GNS3.
Any advice??

It worked for me, and I did not need to use "gksudo" on the launcher.

Thanks!
