Yes, GNS3 can be opened without the gksudo command in the launcher. I use it because root access is required to connect GNS3 to a physical interface on the Linux box.

Robin,
I assume you have this working by now. However, for others reading the comments…the problem could be with your path statement in the launcher.

This is why I avoid GNS3… it’s poorly made and has a lot of flaws. I learned the hard way that “wr mem” doesn’t save my router configs… 6 hours of work down the tubes. That was the last time I used GNS3.

If you followed the instructions closely and are still having problems; try clearing the configuration ini file (edit-preferences-general ). As soon as I did this , everything started working properly.

Hi – 1st thanks for a great site with lots of tips.
I have tried following your instructions but after creating a launcher for GNS the program doesn’t launch at all.
If i insert gksudo in the launcher it asks for the sudo pass which i input but then no GNS.
I have worked around it by just installing GNS via software sources and then opening the net file using open with option but i’d like to know what i am doing wrong as far as getting the other install working?

Hey everyone!
I have recently installed the Ubuntu v9.04 on my machine. I have a folder with the GNS3 installation for the operating system and at the moment I’m kinda struggling to install this GNS3.
Any advice??
