Ciscoguy,

Yeah ... now that you mention it, I have had to change IOS images before. Try that and post back.

Hi Josh,

That is exactly what I did but none of the idlepc values are any better than what I've already got. Might be to do with my version of IOS. Thanks anyway mate.

ciscoguy,

Here is what I do to get a "good" idlepc value.

Start a lab with a particular IOS image. Watch the task manager while you test different idlepc values.

You may have to try several different values before you find one that works well.

Once you find an idlepc value that works, build your lab with the IOS image/idlepc combo.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for that. I've built my lab using Dynamips rather than GNS3 (although I do have a lot of the hardware as well). I'm using the same version of IOS on all three routers which is c3725-ipvoice_ivs-mz.124-15.T7.bin. This is the only IOS for the 3725 that I could get hold of that supports H323 and I didn't want to run different types of routers. However, I find that when I run three routers, despite using the best idlepc value, the CPU is at well over 90% for most of the time. Add the VMWare sessions for CCM/IPCC and Unity plus 4 IP blue phones and we're very close to 100% CPU. Any ideas on how to improve this? I've used BES but if I reduce the Dynamips CPU utilisation much, I find that when I'm entering commands in IOS, the IOS is slow to keep up with my typing.
